Hands up, cycling has never been a passion of mine. I did have a particular fondness for my mountain bike as a kid being my main form of transport to spend long summer holidays cruising around our neighbourhood, but since then, it’s been a rare occurrence to see me on two wheels.
However, in recent times I became aware of guys attending our Mr Perfect BBQs that were involved in local groups or even took part in more competitive long-distance jaunts. When I asked why they loved it, the first answer was that it was great for them mentally.
In that regard, I had to listen, so here are five Australian groups and initiatives that take their cycling, community and their mental health, seriously:
