As we have grown and become increasingly visible, so has the number of inquiries we receive from people contemplating becoming a Mr. Perfect BBQ Host.
The "success" of our BBQs means the Host has a large part to play in our impact.
Although the delivery of what we do is deliberately casual, we strive to run a fairly slick operation with defined processes to make sure that our "recruitment" is as good as it can be.
So what is involved I hear you ask? Here goes:
1. Enquiry
A potential BBQ Host such as yourself can reach us via email at hello@mrperfect.org.au or via our website.
2. Telephone Chat
I agree a mutually convenient time to give you a call. Usually this involves a mix of formalities but most of the time it naturally evolves to a great, meaningful chat, regardless of the outcome. Here are a flavour of some of the questions that may be asked:
- What has attracted you to Mr. Perfect ?
- Do you have any qualifications or work in mental health / health / psychology? (Qualifications are not essential FYI)
- What do you do to keep in good mental health?
- In the very small chance that this would happen, what approach would you take if an attendee was unsafe to themselves or others?
- If you were to start a BBQ give some examples of local businesses you could engage with to make this a true community effort?
3. Email Extra Information
If all goes to plan I send across an information pack providing extra information but also some requests including details of police checks, working with children checks.
4. Location & Date
The fun part - you get to scout out the ideal location with a public BBQ in a park and choose your start date (usually this is 4-6 weeks away to allow us to build momentum and do things properly without rushing).
5. Advertise
Next we post the event online across a couple of platforms and work our magic internally and setting up a chat function for that location. Locally you can start to hand our flyers and let the local community know about us.
6. Equipment
Along with us sending you some items to get you started such as a tee shirt, apron, hat and some marketing materials, you can then purchase a cooler and some tools that we can reimburse.
7. Go Live
Self-explanatory! Get out there, get the BBQ fired up and be proud as punch you have provided a welcoming space for connection and community for the good of men's mental health.
